Seems like all I do is catch up lately…
We had a great time at the 2014 CWCCA Nationals. The only ribbons we brought home this year were from the photo contest, but then again, the only dog I took was 11 month old Gable, who looks very much like a gawky 11 month old right now. And he was in 2 of the biggest dog classes. His brother Jake did well, making the cut in both sweeps and his regular class. It was a grand adventure for Gable, he took flying in stride, and enjoyed the trip. We actually drove home, which was another adventure, and brought a cute baby girl back with us 😉
Not half bad for a hairless, gangly teenage boy Cardi 🙂
We brought back baby Flutter with us. Flutter is from the now infamous Dickens/Lowri litter that had an amazing debut at the National, at 6 months and a minute old…
I just got home last week, and have been catching up on things around the house…but I took Camille in for her BAER test yesterday. While I was pretty certain she hears just fine, since she is a white headed dog, and because she “pretends” to not hear quite often, I figured it cant hurt anything to get her tested! She, of course, came back with perfect hearing in both ears. She no longer has an excuse for being naughty 😉
And speaking of testing, I sent Gables DNA tests off before we left for Nationals, and got the results emailed to me while I was gone. We tested him for DM (although we knew he was line clear), Pink, Fluff, and we wanted to see if he carried Black (both his sire and dam do, but since the entire litter was brindle, there was a 50/50 chance that the boys would carry or would not carry for black). He came back as DM Clear (as expected) but a carrier for Fluff, Pink, and Black. *sigh* But not the end of the world 🙂 Fluffy puppies are pretty dang cute 😉 Wish he would have been clear for pink, but oh well. And we are sort of excited he carries for Black. Which means if bred to a black girl, there should be black puppies. And if bred to a brindle girl who carries black, there could be black puppies as well. (although, you know, much like Nash and Lexi, that isnt always the case! LOL)
I think thats all thats going on here…lots of getting ready for summer and dirty muddy dogs and no more snow and waiting for summer shows to come around 🙂 Will try to get better about keeping things updated on here….but I cant promise anything 😉
Havent done many this year. Between back to back Nationals on opposite ends of the country and puppies soon after, the show this past weekend has been our second all breed show this year. We made it into a vacation and had a ton of fun visiting with friends and watching different breeds show. Got to participate in and watch the Eukanuba Breeders Stakes on Friday night which was actually a lot more fun than I thought it would be. Its neat to watch the different groups of dogs and see so many breeding programs at once. Having three dogs from each program in the ring together is a great visual. Took a ton of photos!!
As always, coming home with points is icing on the cake. I didnt expect much, as I really just wanted to go to the shows to get a break from the real world. Baby Locke ended up winning a 5 point major on Sunday under breeder judge Dana Massey (who is more famous for her Weimeraners than her Pointers…) and Domino picked up an additional point on Sunday as well to add to his small count. He hasnt been out much since he turned a year old, and is finally starting to look a bit more like an adult Cardigan instead of an awkward teenager. Both boys were Reserve Winners Dog on Saturday in their respective breeds.
Camille (or as one judge referred to her – “The white bitch”) won her class both days but went no further. Widget as well…won her class both days but went no further.

Been really busy the past few months….so have a lot of catching up to do. Well, not really. There hasn’t been much going on around here on the dog front aside from the dogs just hanging out while we have been working like mad 🙂
I took Camille to Portland, OR last month to get her out and have some fun. Nothing huge to report, but I’m personally very proud of how the silly baby did.
Have the Corgis entered in the Denver shows next weekend…..majors in boys all 4 days…a nice healthy Cardigan entry. We have our fingers tightly crossed!
Working out plans for Nationals….both Cardigans and Pointers…..we will be vending for our Show Dog Equipment business at Pointer Nationals.
Have been working hard on finishing the truck – new tires and an AC unit are next on the list, but all the crates are in, the bed is in, storage installed. Tie downs secured. I’m thrilled with how it is coming along!
Finally got a chance to take some of the kids out and take photos today….will have to post them later.
Time flies when you are busy beyond belief!!
We’ve been having a great month, going to far too many dog shows…and the babies have been doing us proud this year.
Widget is up to 6 points, and (*knock on wood*) will hopefully single out this weekend. Then we will just be on the hunt for majors. Heck, we are on the hunt for majors anyway!!
Camille has been entered in her first show where she will be eligible for points. I’m quite excited for her debut as her baby puppy career (for whatever that was…) has been exciting thus far! Hopefully we can keep up the momentum and have a blast with the little girl in the mean time 🙂 Shes so stinkin cute and sweet its hard not to just fall head over heels in love with her!
Puzzle is sitting at 10 points (with 3 majors)….she needs 5 singles to finish. I’m HOPEFUL that we can have that done before she turns a year old, but we all know how best laid plans go! I want to finish Puzzle before seriously taking Camille out looking for points…no sense in having the babies competing against each other! There is only one of me, after all!
Maui had an absolute BLAST going out to the MHSDF shows at the beginning of the month and playing show dog again. She loved seeing all her friends again. I was personally hurt that only one person clapped for us in the Veteran Sweeps group. But Maui didnt care, she was out having fun doing what she loves to do the most. And she got to show with Melissa again as well in Juniors….(they won their Open Senior class)
Everyone else has just been hanging out, having fun at home, chasing chickens and what not.
We are off to more shows this weekend and next…hopefully will have more exciting things to report 🙂 (and maybe in a more timely manner as well!! LOL)
I dont even know if I ever bragged about this one or not – but we entered Camille in her first “official” show, in Cheyenne Wyoming over Labor Day weekend. I only went to the show because they were offering the 4-6 month puppy competition. I figured it would be great experience for the baby….and I couldnt have been more correct.
The icing on the cake was that the judges LOVED her. She won the puppy Sporting group (over a large and NICE entry of puppies!) under Barbara Dempsey Alderman…and went on to win the 4-6 month BEST IN SHOW under Helen Lee James!! We are quite thrilled with the little ones performance her first “official” outing in AKC!
